Mardi Gras Ball
A few months ago, I was asked to photograph a Mardi Gras ball down in Biloxi. This was a friend of mine, and he thought I would enjoy the time. He also thought that the photos would turn out well, so he asked me if he would photograph the event.
You see, he was in charge of the festivities this year. Each year, this particular group has one person in charge of making sure everything goes off with a bang. He gets to pick who is in the court, and then both Dukes and Maids get to find out, for the first time that night at the event, who their partner is.
I really had no idea what to expect, but I went with an open mind. You know, whenever you start throwing around words like "mardi gras," things can get a bit wild. Well, this was no exception.
The "court" was made up of dukes, which dressed in a costume already chosen for them. Some of them, mind you, were quite embarassing. Some of them were picked simply for that reason, as payback to someone for years of ridicule.
The maids were not in costumes, but in formal dresses. They were dolled up so nicely, and they paraded the floor, waving their mask and courtsying to the crowd.
It was a great time, and this men's group sure does know how to throw a party. Thanks for letting me be a part of your special night!
