Just Like You

This was a conversation with my 4 year old son, Alan, the other morning in the car:

Alan: Daddy, I can't wait to grow up and get bigger so that I can be just like you.

Me: Really? Why is that?

Alan: When I'm 6, I will be as big as you and I can do things like you.

Me: What kind of things?

Alan: Like work in the dirt. I like how you do that, Daddy. I want to do that like you do.

Me: Hmm...

Alan: And I want to build things like you. I want to be just like you.

Me: Thank you, buddy. I bet you will be like me. And I bet you'll get married and have a beautiful wife too.

Alan: Yeah.
