Storage Grab

[ORIGINALLY POSTED ON AN OLD TUMBLR BLOG I USED YEARS AGO. I RECENTLY HAD A CONVERSATION WITH SOMEONE AND IT PROMPTED ME TO POST THIS TO MY NEW SITE.]

The iPhone, the amazing tool that it is, gets confused and fragmented at times.

Before I realized it, I looked at my "other" category on the iPhone and it was over 9GB...of my 32GB. That is just unacceptable. The "other" category is typically SMS messages, and operating system information on the phone.

A friend (@asmith001) told me about something that can be done to combat this. I tried it and it totally worked.

What you do is wipe your phone. Yes, you do a restore of your iPhone. No, you don't restore from a backup. This clears that "other" category. It is a pain though, because all of your settings are gone and all of your app settings and logins are forgotten. So long as you are prepared to set all of that up, do this. If you are like me, I didn't have a choice. I didn't have enough room on my iPhone to put the things on it that I needed/wanted.

If you try it, let me know that you did and how much you recovered. I was able to recover almost 9GB...which is a considerable amount of memory.
